Agency: CA Department of Justice
Summary: Criminal Justice Information System Redesign
PROBLEM: The California Department of Justice needed to modernize its existing database architecture from legacy systems to new a distributed systems environment. This required the migration of nine CJIS applications from the legacy Unisys/COBOL environment to the new CJIS Open System Environment of Oracle/Sun/Solaris.
SOLUTION: LCS provided the application design, development, conversion, documentation, and implementation for the migration of nine CJIS applications from the legacy Unisys/COBOL environment to the new CJIS Open System Environment of Oracle/Sun/Solaris. These applications are responsible for processing message-based requests from the law enforcement community in California (which are submitted through the CLETS telecommunications network) and returning the response from the DOJ CJIS database via the CJIS Control middleware.
RESULTS: Six applications have been successfully deployed to production: Firearms Eligibility (FEAF), California Restraining and Protective Orders (CARPOS), Automated Firearms (AFS), Supervised Release (SRF), Wanted Persons (WPS), Stolen Vehicles and Boats (SVS/ABS). LCS is currently developing three additional applications: Missing and Unidentified Persons (MUPS), Automated Property System (APS) and Mental Health Firearms Prohibition System (MHFPS). These are real-time, mission-critical message-based applications, used by over 50,000 law enforcement users to verify the identity and background of individuals (when, for example, making a traffic stop).
Agency: California Prison Health Care Services
Summary: Clinical Data Repository
PROBLEM: California Prison Health Care Services (CPHCS) needed to address a number of Information Technology (IT) projects to achieve the Receiver’s efforts in raising the level of health care of patient-inmates to constitutional standards. These projects included: Clinical Data Repository (CDR), Health Care Scheduling System (HCSS), Mental Health Tracking System (MHTS), and Central Fill Pharmacy.
SOLUTION: LCS is responsible for development and implementation of clinical forms within CPHCS’ Clinical Data Repository (CDR). CDR is a system that provides a core set of services and functionality that lay the foundation of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR). LCS consultants are assisting CPHCS program and IT staff with development of clinical forms using Adobe LiveCycle Enterprise Suite, Oracle 10g and 11g, Oracle Fusion Middleware Suite, and Oracle Healthcare Transaction Base (HTB). The solution incorporates Orion Portal, Initiate EMPI, Oracle HTB and Oracle Fusion Middleware technologies including Oracle Database 10g and 11g.
RESULTS: CDR was released to six institutions as a pilot. Improvements based on user feedback are currently being developed and performance enhancements are being made prior to full production release.
